Birth control is an important element of modern medicine and family planning. Tens of millions of American women across the country rely on prescribed birth control as part of their daily lives. Birth control is important, and it simply cannot fail.
Too often, sadly, birth control medication doesn’t just fail to work, it ends up hurting innocent people, usually women. These are some of the most devastating and dangerous examples of defective drugs.
Our defective drug lawyers help the innocent victims of poorly designed or manufactured drugs find justice and compensation for their injuries.
If you’ve been hurt by a defective birth control medication, please call Chance, Forlines, Carter & King, PC today at 404-760-7400 for a free consultation. We’re located in Atlanta, Georgia, but we accept defective product cases from around the country.
SPECIFIC EXAMPLES
Modern birth control devices are often implanted in women by a doctor during an office visit. Studies make clear that implanted devices do a more effective job of preventing pregnancy than traditional bills or condoms. Many women describe these devices as life-savers.
However, because of their positioning, a defective birth control device can cause excruciating pain and significant damage. This can have devastating long-term effects and eminently justifies legal action and compensation.
Two specific examples of defective birth control cases we’ve handled are:
- ParaGard: ParaGard is a non-hormonal intra-uterine birth control device that is implanted during a doctor’s visit. Made of copper and plastic, the t-shaped device bathes the lining of the uterus in copper, causing an inflammation that is toxic to sperm. Unfortunately, some women have reported that ParaGard IUDs “migrate,” causing damage to the body. Anemia is also a side effect of ParaGard.
- Essure: Another non-hormonal IUD, Essure is a non-reversible system that uses two metal coils placed in the fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy. It’s a non-surgical alternative for women who don’t want to get pregnant again, but also don’t want to undergo a tubal ligation. However, thousands of women have reported pain, internal damage and neurological issues after being implanted with an Essure device.
Sadly, these are not the only birth control devices that have hurt women. But they are two specific examples that we have helped with as part of our practice.
We urge you to speak with us as soon as possible if you’ve suffered pain, discomfort or injury after being implanted with a ParaGard or Essure device.
